Greece (officially known as the Hellenic Republic) is a country located in the southeastern region of Europe. The proximity to Europe, Asia, and Africa made Greece an important location for all of the major empires of the world’s past, including ancient Greece, Rome, the Ottoman Empire, and the Byzantine Empire. Greece is best known as being the birthplace of philosophy, democracy, and the Olympic Games. Western literature got its start in Greece, and politics and mathematical science all played a vital role in the knowledge and movements of the Greek people.
Modern Greece is a developed country that is a member of various world organization including the European Union and NATO. And while the culture of Greece has had more than a few thousand years to evolve, there are still some timeless traditions that still take place in the country of Greece.
Athens, the capital of Greece, is an amazing place that is full of the history and artifacts of the ancient world. Here you will be able to visit the Acropolis and see an ancient city close up. On the Acropolis there are many different historical site such as the Temple of Athena Nike, the Parthenon, and much more. While in Athens you can also see many of the artifacts that have been discovered through archeological digs. These are all displayed in museums throughout the city for the world to see.
And if you want to discover something more contemporary, Athens is full of art museums that include some of the best examples of European and international art. The art district has quite a few museums all within walking distance of each other. It is truly an art lovers dream, second only to the museums in Italy.
The Greek Isles are also another place where tourism is the major industry. There are a lot of islands where you can find coastal resorts and a number of fine dining and shopping areas that will cater to international and local vacationers.
