Cyprus is a country that is situated in the eastern Mediterranean Sea. It is located south of Turkey, north of Egypt, and southeast of Greece. Music has also made its way into Cyprus life. There is a style of traditional folk music in Cyprus that combines many elements common Greek folk music on the mainland, and also includes dances such as the sousta, zeibekikos, tatsia, and syrtos. The instruments often associated with Cyprus folk music is the accordion, the violin, the lute, and the Cyprus flute.
Many traditional celebrations on the island use this music as part of the celebration. There are many traditional feats and celebrations that are held throughout the year on Cyprus. And pop music also has its place in Cyprus culture, drawing mainly from the styles of Greek pop music.
When visiting Cyprus, visitors will also want to take in the traditional Cyprus cuisine. This includes dishes such as Halloumi, calamari, and sea bass. Halloumi is a cheese that is made from goat and sheep’s milk. Calamari is octopus. Cyprus dishes are often prepared in olive oil and sprinkled with parsley.
The beaches in Cyprus are the real draw for visitors all over the world. There are plenty of activities to do both in and out of the Mediterranean Sea. There are many hotels and resorts that have built up along the coast, but there are still many more traditional Cyprus spots throughout the island for visitors who want to get a taste of what its like to live on the island.
And if visitors get bored with all the sightseeing, they can go to one of many sporting events that are held on the island. Besides a love of football, there is the Automobile Association, the Cyprus Basketball Federation, and the Cyprus Volleyball Federation. All of these sport organizations hold games and matches throughout the year.
