Croatia is a country that is located in the southern part of Central Europe. It is the country that sits at the crossroads between the Pannonian Plane and the Mediterranean Sea. The capital of the Croatia is Zagreb. Croatia shares a sea border with Italy. It shares a land border with Serbia, Hungary, Slovenia, and Montenegro.
Croatia has a long and interesting past that was sometimes tumultuous. Now the country is a member of a variety of world organizations including the Council of Europe and the United Nations. Croatia also received an invitation to join NATO in April 2008.
Croatia, becoming a developed country, beginning with their fast growing highway network. Over the last four decades, the country ahs added over 1000 kilometers of highways that connect Zagreb to most of the other regions in the country. The A1 is by far the best known highway. It connects the capital to Split. The A3 connects to the northwest of the country as well as Slavonia. All of the highways in Croatia are tolled excepted for the Zagreb bypass.
For those traveling through Croatia who do not have access to a car, there are also many train services that are operated by the Croatian Railways. And those who are arriving by plane will arrive in one of the five major airports: Zagreb, Zadar, Split, Rijeka, or Dubrovnik. The system of ferries links the mainland of Croatia to the islands as well as the coastal cities. The ferries will also take you to Italy.
Croatia’s history spans back more than fourteen centuries. This long history has added much to the culture and tradition of the people of Croatia. There are also many monuments and attractions that have been around a long time and draw thousands of visitors each year. Croatia has eight national parks and seven World Heritage sites. These sites include the Historic City of Trogir, The Old City of Dubrovnik, The Cathedreal of St. James, and the Episcopal Complex of the Euphrasian Basilica in Porec.
There are also great people that have came from Croatia, including three Nobel prize winners and numerous inventors. These inventors have been responsible for everyday items such as the necktie and the fountain pen. These interest facts and more will be explained in detail in some of Croatia’s more popular museums. And if visitors want to spend their time exploring outdoors, there are plenty of outdoor monuments and tourist attractions as well.
